Question 4 & 5

Question 3

Question 6

Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

When filming my preliminary task I identified that my framing work didn’t always fit as well as it could have. Also when watching it back I noticed some of camera movement was shaky. Since filming the preliminary task I believe I have improved my camera skills as I have been practicing the different types of shots. In my opinion the difference in the two tasks was a huge step up. As with the preliminary task I was able to film it within hours. Then I was able to edit it within 3 lessons. Although the actual planning of the task took about 2 weeks as I then decided what ideas would and wouldn’t work.

My overall editing of the preliminary task wasn’t as good as my final product due to it being one of the first times I had used the programme Adobe Premier. Although the programme is quite straightforward it can still be very time consuming. However learning to use the programme before taught me many new skills and helped me with my progress between the preliminary task and final product. Once I started editing it became easier as we went along. When deciding on my location for my preliminary “The Job “it was quite straight forward as I was able to use a variety of locations within the school environment. Also for my main product I was able to use a friend’s house for my opening sequence. My skills when creating my story board have also developed further as for the preliminary task there was fewer shots than my final product. The final product was also much more complex when deciding how to make sure each shot would fit within the frame. It was a lengthy process when trying to decide how long each shot would last for. Overtime I do think these skills have developed much more since my preliminary task as it includes allot more detail and descriptions in my final product. When completing both tasks I do feel I was a lot more relaxed in the preliminary task. Whereas the opening sequence I had to follow my story board step by step in order to ensure if fitted. I also had a much more detailed idea of what music I wanted to incorporate in order to give off the correct narrative. Although my final product included very little speech I still had a basic script that I had to stick to. The choices I have made are a lot more developed in my final product due to it being a lot longer and a harder task to create and opening sequence my main choices I made were the sound and the mise –en-scene. I believe these choices made did give me a better out come in my final product as in my first task I had a lot less knowledge on planning story boards and making sure everything fit better in the frames. Many improvements between the tasks are visible I believe, as the narrative is a lot more clear in my final product and the non-diegetic music added helps for it to be identified. Whereas in my preliminary the music included did fit but could have been a longer process of trial and error seeing what could have worked better in order to improve it. I feel from completing the preliminary process I learnt the appropriate skills in order to carry out my opening sequence. I feel it helped doing that task before as it helped me to develop my understanding of frame work and giving off the correct narrative. It also allowed me to practise the editing process and work out how the get the correct speed and transitions in. When presenting my first edit of my final product I had some positive feedback many people enjoyed the narrative of my film and the music included. Although the main criticism was that the framing could have been slightly better and less shaky. I was already aware of this but was still useful for my peers to enlighten me on their opinions. Many of them said they would have liked to view my film in the cinema.

main task ( not finished)

This week we have now been working on our idea for our main task. I have managaed to identify most aspects i want to include in my film opening. To help me do this we have watched many film openings with lesson time then taking detailed notes on what types of genre can do what to open their film also i have learnt how to make the opening very interesting to make many people want to know what happens yet.

  • The film openings we have watched include:
  • Stand by me directed by Rob Reiner in 1986
  • The princess bride directed by Rob Reiner in 1987
  • When harry met Sally directed by Rob Reiner in 1989
  • Misery directed by Rob Reiner in 1990

case study

We have also been working on two different case studies including Inception and The Dark Knight Rises both with have been distrubuted by Warner Bros. We have been identifying the target audience and the genre. We have also been looking into how these two films have become such a success.

We then starting looking into how these films were marketed, distrubuted and consumed.
I then idenfitied the types of marketing that was used such as viral marketing. Also the different types of adverts used.We looked into the conventional marketing used such as: posters, magazines and trailers. Also the digital advertising such as: websites , social network sites, blogs , games and viral pop up adverts. We then looked into the strengths and difficulties with the types of marketing that was used.

We also did allot of research and a case study on the massive distrubution company Warner Bros.I identified that they are vertically and horizontally intergrated. They are also the only international film company that have a studio in the UK. I did secondary research on them and used many websites to build a case study on them.

Intergration

This week we have been learning about institutions and organizations. Identifying the difference between vertical intergration and horizontal intergration.
We learnt that vertical intergration is when a company owns lots of other companies which are responsible for different stages of the film.
Also that horizaontal intergration is when a compamny owns lots of companies who all do the same things one particular company who owns lots of film production companies.

Media theory representations of sexuality

In media theory we have been identifying representation of sexuality. we learned how to identify the definition of sexuality also the different definitions of gender. I also learnt about different Ideologies such as the dominant ideology. we also learnt about the theorist Hegemony. We then learnt about how homosexuality can be represented in the media. Also what stereotypes of homosexuality exsist in the media. We then went on to identify many TV dramas that include homosexuality within their story lines.

This allowed me to have an understanding of how things are represented and portrayed within the media. Also how much of it stills exisists.

pleminary tast

For my pleminary task where we have to create a 1 minute film of two people having a conversation. I then went on to decide the scene interior being day time. I think wrote my
narrative which included:The scene begins with a guy walking into the room with an over shoulder shot of him walking through the door with a brief case slams it on the table and opens it. The other guy is sat down. I created this idea as i believed it could be strong and powerful statement made and would be able to encouparte the match on action well.

I then continued by writing my script and desinging my story board. By including how long each shot would last for and what type of shot it was. I also included the dialogue and timing.
