Intergration

This week we have been learning about institutions and organizations. Identifying the difference between vertical intergration and horizontal intergration.
We learnt that vertical intergration is when a company owns lots of other companies which are responsible for different stages of the film.
Also that horizaontal intergration is when a compamny owns lots of companies who all do the same things one particular company who owns lots of film production companies.

Media theory representations of sexuality

In media theory we have been identifying representation of sexuality. we learned how to identify the definition of sexuality also the different definitions of gender. I also learnt about different Ideologies such as the dominant ideology. we also learnt about the theorist Hegemony. We then learnt about how homosexuality can be represented in the media. Also what stereotypes of homosexuality exsist in the media.We then went on to identify many TV dramas that include homosexuality within their story lines.

This allowed me to have an understanding of how things are represented and portrayed within the media.Also how much of it stills exisists.

pleminary tast

For my pleminary task where we have to create a 1 minute film of two people having a conversation. I then went on to decide the scene interior being day time. I think wrote my

narrative which included:The scene begins with a guy walking into the room with an over shoulder shot of him walking through the door with a brief case slams it on the table and opens it. The other guy is sat down. I created this idea as i believed it could be strong and powerful statement made and would be able to encouparte the match on action well.

I then continued by writing my script and desinging my story board. By including how long each shot would last for and what type of shot it was. I also included the dialogue and timing.

 

In todays lesson we were learnig about the representation of gender.
what does it mean to be defined as a certain gender. i came up with some sex traitsw(sex charcteristics)


 for example woman are steretypically seen as:

• caring
• selfless
• talkers
• emotional
• passive
• nurtering
• organised

And men are seen to be:

• powerfull
• masculine
• strong
• lazy
• dominant
• competettive
• agressive
• stubborn
• selfish

whne leanrning about these sex traits whe identified them in characters within a variety of film clips and how men and woman are made to be portrayed in certain story lines.

In todays lesson we were looking at the representation of sexuality in 'fingersmith' we discucssed the ways in which the extract from fingersmith representations of sexuality , using the following:

• camera anglesa and movements
• mise -en -scene
• sound
• editing

we then looked at these 4 factors and wrote down the dennotation and the connotation in each.
for example within the mise-en-secne the woman wore gowns,gloves ,big hats, blowses represents a sense of sophisticaton and how they are traditionally dressed for the age in which the film is set in.

For an exstension task we then had to create our own essay on the representation of sexuality in fingersmith. i learnt allot about representation of sexuality in this.

Today i have completed my story board with total of 11 shots. it took  me a while to finish as i wasnt sure how i wanted to portray my shots.  And to get the plot accross. My plot is two men and a mysterious briefcase with low key lighting i plan to start filming this week.

Media theory 3 American Beauty

In today's media theory we have learn different types of camera angles and movement we have been establishing he differences between long shots, medium shots and close ups. We have Within the camera movement we have been identifying low angle shots and high angle shots also learning the types of movement within tracking panning titling and zooming.

We watched the opening of the film American beauty made in (1999) we had to identify the denotation of the camera angles we identified many different angles of different characters for example high angle shot of the street.we then went on to take the denotation and create the connotation where we identify what it makes us think of and how makes us feel for example there is an over the shoulder shot in American beauty where there is an over the shoulder shot looking over at Caroline this shows the distance between them also representing that he is trapped behind the window and that they have no verbal communication. we then plan to move onto the camera movement mise-en-scene and sound whether being diegetic or non diegetic. 

We were then given bullets points of a film and had to create in our mind how we would film them certain things that took place before we were allowed to watch the begining of the film and see  how it was actually done.The film was called good fellas and old gangsta film made in 1990. we created it in a storyboard of each camera movement and shoty type and then drew and example of it to help us remember and relate to which shot is which.
